



This very scarce Bible has only four continental locations according to VD16, while NUC, RLIN, and OCLC combine to locate only two copies in the U.S. Further, according to RLIN the British Library copy is incomplete, lacking all before Proverbs and also the last page of Revelation.
VD16 B2676. Not in Darlow & Moule. Full calf old style: Round spine with
raised bands, accented with gilt rules; red leather title label; rules in
blind extending onto covers from each band to terminate in trefoils with blind
double fillets beyond. Title-pages damaged with some loss of the border but
not serious loss. Title-pages backed. Some browning and age-toning to text
and some stray stains. In vol. I leaf d2 torn with loss; top half of leaf
d6 excised (for the illustration); lower outside corner of leaf q7 torn off
with loss of woodcut image on recto and of some text on verso; bottom half
of leaf z5 excised (for the image); leaf aa4 torn in margin with loss of some
letters or short words. Last leaf of text missing. In vol. II illustrations
on leaves Z5, DD7, eee1, & eee3 excised and reattached; lower two thirds
of eee6 excised and missing. Last leaf of text missing.
Clearly
a volume rescued from the hands of a vandal intent on mutilating it for its
pictures. A survivor; a rare and noteworthy book.
