striking woodcut portrait of King Sigismund II August of Poland (in great
fur cape and hat) appears on the verso of the title-leaf.
Jan Herburt z Fulsztyna (1508–76) was a lawyer who also published a digest of the statutes of the kingdom of Poland.
Provenance: Charles Spencer, Third Earl of Sunderland, lot 6065 in the Sunderland Library sale (1882).
• Adams H309. Old calf rebacked by a library with heavy brown
cloth; covers ruled in blind, much rubbed, with some loss of leather on edges.
Spine with paper shelf label; charge pocket on rear pastedown; pressure-stamps,
including one on title-page. Title-page lightly soiled, traces of soiling on
top edges of other pages, a few spots of marginal inkstaining, some page corners
chipped off. All edges speckled red. 
Solid
for use, well worth having, and priced recognizing its faults.
