Limited edition: Luxurious recipes designed to “stimulate
affectionate feeling” and make any temperament “ardent and passionate”
(p. 5) for a time. Compiled by the appropriately named editor from various historical
sources, this romantically decadent cookbook includes both substantial and lighter
dishes, notes on “perfumes and diversified dainties,” and advice
for the aging, as well as a chapter in which two different menus and accompanying
decorating instructions are precisely detailed, for the purpose of softening
the heart of either a blonde or a brunette! (Redheads, in case you were wondering,
should be offered “a small mixture of the two culinary combinations”).
There was an additional trade edition, which appeared in the yellow paper wrappers bound in here.
Publisher’s half green morocco, leather edges ruled in
gilt, spine with gilt-stamped title; spine slightly darkened, binding with
a few tiny scuffs not detracting from overall attractive appearance. Original
yellow paper wrappers bound in. Pages clean and crisp.
