Petrarca, Francesco. De
los remedios contra p[ro]spera y aduersa fortuna. [colophon: Sevilla: Jacobo
Cromberger,
1513]. Small folio. [6], 169 ff. (lacks final blank leaf {only}).

This, Cromberger's printing of Petrarch's classic work on fortune and the
conduct of life, is widely held to be an extremely handsome production. It
begins with an elaborate woodcut title-page and presents throughout what Lyell,
in his Early Book Illustration in Spain, calls "a good example of [Cromberger's]
careful press-work and well designed decorative woodcut capitals": The second
edition printed in Spain of this translation (the first appeared 1510), it
is quite rare.
An important book by an important writer, printed
by a famous and influential printer, and with a definite connection to the
earliest printing in the New World.
Provenance:
With the bookplate of the enigmatic Cuban book collector, Oscar Cintas.
